Dear Fellow Serrans
Serra is experiencing a decrease in the numbers of members attending
first Friday rosary at Christ The King. Attending the First Friday
rosary and mass is one of the easiest and best ways to pray for an increase
in vocations. Many times we can't do all we would like to increase vocations
because of time limitations, but both private and public prayer are really
the best way we can ask God to grant new vocations. If you haven't been
making the first Friday rosary please try to make it the first Friday in
October. We need all the prayers we can get to make an increase in vocations
a reality
.
Don't forget to say the Serran Prayer for Vocations each day. Put a copy of
the prayer on the bathroom mirror and say the prayer while you are washing
each morning. If you need a copy of the prayer for your wallet, pick one up
as you check in at the next Thursday luncheon or Friday evening dinner.
The vocation committee is in need of vacation prayers to be published in the
South Plains Catholic and parish bulletins throughout the dioceses.. Where
else could we find better prayers but from our members. The prayers do not
have to be long. In fact short prayers of four or five lines are preferred.
Each will be published with or with out your name as you prefer .Send or
give your prayer to: Jim Mc Nally or any member of the vocational committee.
It has been about six months since we have said anything about Club 31. Most
of you have signed up to attend mass at least one day a month. Many members
have signed to go to mass more than one day. If you need to change your mass
day or need to get your name down for a mass see Jim Mc Nally and make the
changes you desire.
The Man Who Founded California is the title of a new book about the
life of Blessed Junipero Serra. Father Serra is even recognized by the
secular society of the United States government as the founder of
California.. A full size statue of Father Serra can be found in the hall at
the Capital in Washington. If you are interested in reading more about
Blessed Juniper Serra (made a saint in1986 by Pope John Paul in1986) Copies
are available at Brother John bookstore for $24.95.
